India wins Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand

Kathmandu – India has won the ICC Champions Trophy cricket title by defeating New Zealand.

India defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final held in Dubai today. India chased down the target of 252 runs set by New Zealand in 49 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 76, Shreyas Iyer scored 48, and KL Rahul scored 34 not out. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, New Zealand, who won the toss and elected to bat, scored 251 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. New Zealand’s Darrell Mitchell scored 63 runs and Michael Bracewell scored 53 runs not out. India’s Varun Chakraborty and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each.

India emerged victorious in the tournament, remaining undefeated. India also became the first team to win the Champions Trophy for the third time. India had previously won the title jointly in 2002 and in 2013.
