Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets
Kathmandu: Nepal has won the final match of the group stage of the four-nation Women’s Day Cup being held in Uganda. Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets in the match held on Friday.


Nepal achieved the target of 105 runs set by Hong Kong with 3 balls remaining for the loss of 4 wickets. Samjhana Khadka top-scored for Nepal with 47 runs. Pooja Mahato remained unbeaten on 20 runs while Indu Verma scored 18 runs. Hong Kong’s Mehak Deep and Lai Win took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Hong Kong, who had won the toss and elected to bat first at the Entebbe ground, had scored 104 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Although the total looked like it would reach around 130 runs at one point, Hong Kong added only 8 runs in the last 4 overs.
Shanjin Shahzad scored a half-century for Hong Kong. She scored 54 runs off 47 balls, her first half-century of the tournament. Similarly, Chan Ka Ying scored 16 runs and Yasmin Daswani scored 14 runs.
For Nepal, Rajmati Airi took 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Captain Indu Verma took 2 wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs. Pooja Mahato and Ishwari Bista took 1 wicket each.
Having lost four out of six group stage matches, Nepal’s chances of finishing in the top two and playing in the finals have already ended. Nepal is also certain to finish fourth in the group.
Nepal has only 4 points from 6 matches, while Uganda, Namibia and Hong Kong have 6 points each. The two teams that will play in the final will be decided after today’s second match.
While the top two teams play in the final, the teams finishing third and fourth in the group will play for third place.
Nepal was defeated by Namibia in the first match, defeated Uganda in the second match, lost to Hong Kong in the third match, and lost to Namibia in the fourth match.
