South Africa defeat Ireland by 33 runs to go 1-0 ahead in the T20 series
KATHMANDU: South Africa won the first T20 cricket match against Ireland by 33 runs.
Batting in reply to South Africa’s target of 166, Ireland lost nine wickets in 20 overs and managed to score only 132 runs. Harry Tector scored 36 runs for Ireland but the team could not win.
Berry McCarthy was unbeaten on 30 and Jose Little on 15. Captain Andy Balbrine scored 22 runs. South Africa’s Tabrez Sami took 4 wickets.
Lungi NGD and George Linde took 2/2 wickets. Batting first in Dublin, South Africa lost seven wickets in 20 overs and scored 165 runs. Edin McCorm was the top scorer for South Africa with 39 runs.
David Miller scored 28, Rossi Van Der scored 25 and Quinton de Kock scored 20. Ireland’s Mark Adiar took 3 wickets and Simi Singh and Jose Little took 2/2 wickets. With the win, South Africa has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The previous three-match ODI series ended in a 1-1 draw.
